The 17th Annual Flying Colors Butterfly Festival will delight everyone all weekend at the Chattahoochee Nature Center when the air fills with the beating wings of hundreds of beautiful butterflies! The 17th Annual Flying Colors Butterfly Festival will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2016 from 10am – 3pm and Sunday, June 5, 2016 from 12pm – 5pm.
The cost is $12 General Public/$8 CNC Members and is a very important fundraising event for the Chattahoochee Nature Center!
BEAUTIFUL LIVE BUTTERFLIES
Live Butterfly Releases—Thrill to the release of live butterflies on Saturday and Sunday
Butterfly Encounter – Explore the live butterfly exhibit in a 20×20 walk-through exhibit where you will have contact with more than 200 free-flying butterflies!
CREATIVE BUTTERFLIES
Butterfly Crafts and Face Painting – Crafts for everyone! Kids can get their faces painted with beautiful butterflies and creepy caterpillars!
Butterfly Sidewalk Art – Butterflies provide the perfect inspiration for our on-going art project. Create a “butterfly path” from the Ben Brady Lakeside Pavilion all the way to the “fairy village!”
BUTTERFLY NATURALISTS!
Butterfly Plant Sale – Find the perfect host plants and nectar plants to take home to your garden to attract butterflies to your backyard! CNC Horticulture volunteers will be on-hand at the plant sale and in the butterfly garden to answer your questions about how to attract butterflies and other pollinators to your yard!
MORE FESTIVAL FUN!
Enjoy the show when butterflies land on flowers after the releases. All ages will enjoy this fun event featuring: live music; photography and entomology exhibits; arts and crafts; face painting, butterfly parades and more.
Kids can wear their butterfly costumes. Pollinator and host plants will be on sale for garden enthusiasts. Food trucks will sell snacks on site.
The popularity of the expanded “Butterfly Encounter” tented exhibit will provide visitors a close up experience to hand-feed hundreds of free flying butterflies. This is the perfect place to get expert advice about the best pollinator and host plants to attract butterflies, hummingbirds and other pollinators to your own garden. Witness nature’s marvelous pollinators and enjoy the show as butterflies land on people and flowers at each release.
Live music; photography and entomology displays; arts and crafts; plus face painting provide festival fun.
Bring your camera to capture these fantastic, fluttering creatures up close. Improve your photography skills while trying to capture these illusive insects with advice from Nature Photographers on hand. Play while beautiful butterflies enchant you!
They’ll have food trucks with delicious options for your picnic, selling snacks and lunch items.
LAST MINUTE DETAILS
Please Carpool! There is limited parking in the CNC parking lot. There will also be free shuttle bus service available from St. Francis School near the corner of Willeo/Azalea and Highway 120.
Please note that there is not an ATM on site. Cash may be needed for some vendors including food.
Please note that pets are not allowed on the CNC grounds.
